2005 Marcus Chan (Man category) won the National Closed Championship. NM Siti Zulaikha Foudzi won the women section.

2005 - Kuala Lumpur win 2005 Majlis Sukan dan Kebajikan Anggota- Anggota Kerajaan (MAKSAK). Runners up goes to Sarawak. The team event was held in Melaka.

2005 - The 2nd Malaysian Chess Festival 2005 was held in MidValley ,Kuala Lumpur. The festival has different competitions -

(i) 2nd Dato' Arthur Tan Malaysian Open Chess Championship; (Champion - Wang Hao - China)
(ii) 25th ASTRO-Merdeka Team Championship (Rapid)- (Champion -Tagaytay City - Philippines)
(iii) 25th ASTRO-Merdeka Team Championship (Open)- (Champion -Tagaytay City - Philippines)
(iv) Chevy Chess Challange ; (Champion -Kamaluddin Yusof - Malaysia) and
